Toddler Food Round Up

My little baby is growing up and I really enjoying the motherhood more than ever.
Rather than just a baby who can only cry, laugh, and poo
she is more than everything now.

We had a chat, conversation, dancing together, walk in the park,
enjoying play ground, puddle, read the book,
washing dishes, doing laundry, hanging laundry,
folding clothes

The more I love she is able to enjoy most of adult food (kid friendly version)
So that I don't have to cook food separate from her.
Well, I still do cook special food just for her.
Then I have to cook for myself.
Just because I think her food has too much carbohydrate and fat content which not suitable for me
*psssttt... I am trying to lose weight which never happen anyway lol.

Here are some of the food I made for her

Oat porridge with yogurt and dried fruits

Fritata, Toast, String Cheese, Chocolate Milk

Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Sausages, Mushroom, Tomatoes

steamed sticky rice in coconut milk

Breakfast mostly made from protein and carbohydrate.
Since she is not really into eggs lately, and she never really like to eat meat in the morning.
I tend to give her High-Carb meal and cup of warm milk soon as she open her eyes.

While Lunch would be more variety in her plate. At this time I do spoil her with lot of choice of vegetables. I would not force her to eat certain food.
I let her choose whichever she wants to eat, and left the unwanted.

Stir fried Pasta, Steamed broccoli, Carrot, Cauliflower.
Roast Chicken from left over.

Vegetable soup (carrot, napa cabbage), Fish Ball

Soto Ayam (Indonesia Yellow Chicken Soup) served with rice noodles, hard boiled egg.

Spinach noodle soup, Carrot, Choy Sim, boiled egg

Fried Noodle, Omelette, Fried Tempeh, Yoghurt

Steamed Rice, Vegetable soup, Corn fritter

For Dinner for baby at 6pm, mostly I offered more carbohydrates and protein just to fill her up (so that she can sleep well). About 7:30 we will watch TV While we waiting her Dad back from work, she will have another session of sliced fruits as her snacks accompanied by warm milk.

Rice, hard boiled egg,
sweet and sour prawn

fried rice with peas,
stir fried carrot, apple, cherry tomato,
squid

fried pasta with scrambled egg, sausages and vegetable

steamed rice, sweet sour prawn and vegetable,
hard boiled egg

marmite on toast, cantaloupe

steamed rice, stir fried vegetable, fish cake

banana, frosties, cheese

pasta, bok choy, fish ball

sticky rice, banana, raisins, frosties, baby biscuits,
steamed sticky rice

Fried flat noodle with carrot and beef ball

Mee Goreng Mamak Simple

One of my favorite meal in Malaysia. It so cheap, simple yet delicious.
Stir fried yellow egg noodle with plenty filling and condiments are common ordered in "Mamak Restaurant" (Indian Muslim living in Malaysia), or Nasi Kandar Restaurant.

However since I tried to reduce weight, I couldn't dare myself to order it again cos I'm scared with the amount of cooking oil used to make the dish. And for sure I can't share the meal with my toddler.

Lucky enough the internet shares us plenty recipe, but I am comfortable most with recipe from this pispterian blog the ingredients and seasoning written complete just like the original recipe in Kedai Mamak.

However I will share my version which less filling (fridge aku tak selalu ada benda semua tu, ha ha) and tiada cili so its friendly enough for 19 Months old baby.

Key Ingredients:
1/2 pack yellow noodle (saya pakai mee kuning cap wau)
1 yellow onion
3 cloves garlic
1 tomato, cut into 4
2 tbs sweet soy sauce
1 tbs oyster sauce
1 tsp light soy sauce

bit of sugar, white pepper.
1 tbs cooking oil
50 ml water
1 egg

White tofu, cut into cubes
1/2 cup cabbage, shredded
boiled potato, prawn, squid, fish cake, sausages as per 'fridge stock'

*potato, sausages, fish cake need to add after sauteed the onion. To make it bit charred and crispy. While prawn and squid only add at the last part before adding water and egg to avoid overcook.

1. Heat up half of cooking oil, put in tofu. lightly fried until bit yellow. Add rest of oil, sliced onion and minced garlic.
2. Add in tomato and cabbage. stir fast. Then add in noodle.
3. Keep stiring fast, add in all the sauce, sugar and pepper.
4. Keep stir the noodle until fully covered with the sauce.
5. Add in other ingredients you might want to put, stir for another 30 second.

6. Add in water, stir very quick. Push the noodle at the side, and crack an egg in other side. Scramble it fast, then mix with the noodle.
7. Serve immediately.

I even have the noodle for Marcella's lunchbox for her to bring to day care :)

The key of good Mee Mamak depend on the size of the wok.
I think the bigger the wok is, make it easier to stir and mix and we don't have to scared if the noodle will splash over the floor (well, it will splash anyway).

Use big fire and stir them fast.
The cooking time shall less than 10 minutes.

Mie Kuah Cap Cay

A very simple made up recipe which I really like.  I can mix and match the ingredients according to the fridge shelf *wink . Cap Cay or Capjye or Cap Jae on whichever region or country you are coming from.  Basically stir fried mix vegetable,  seafood and other protein in starchy gravy.

Is almost similar with Malaysian dish called Mie Kungfu,
however in Indonesia the vegetable and seafood egg-y gravy served with rice instead of noodle.

Ingredients:

1 cup cooked eeg noodle
2 pcs chicken sausages or chicken breast.
1 carrot (wortel) iris bunga
1/2 cup sweet corn kernel (jagung manis pipil)
1/2 cup frozen peas (kacang kapri)
1/2 cup prawn (udang kupas)

seasoning (bumbu)
1 tbsp oyster sauce (saus tiram)
2 tbs sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
1/2 yellow onion (bawang bombay)
2 cloves garlic (2 siung bawang putih, geprek)
salt, pepper, sugar to taste (merica, garam, gula)
200 ml water (air)
1 tbs corn starch (tepung maizena/tepung jagung)
1 eggs, beaten. (telur ayam)

1. Haluskan bawang putih. Bawang bombay diiris tipis.
2. Panaskan minyak 1 sdm, masukkan telur ayam. Buat orak-arik sebentar. Kemudian angkat dan sisihkan.
3. Panaskan sisa minyak, tumis bawang putih hingga harum. Masukkan wortel, sosis, kecap manis dan saus tiram. Aduk kembali hingga rata.
4. Masukkan air, tutup kuali. Dan biarkan hingga wortel setengah masak (5 menit).
5. Masukkan jagung dan kapri. Masak sebentar hingga kedua bahan empuk.
6. Cicipi kuah, kemudian masukkan merica bubuk, garam dan gula sesuai selera.

Very easy...

even my 19 months kid love it too.. :)

Sorry for mix-max language, secara otak sudah bercampur aduk seperti cendol.
Kalau kurang faham, please use google translate.

Resep Mie Ayam

Mie Ayam aka Chicken Noodle

is a very common Indonesian street food which almost everyone love.
A bowl of piping hot noodle with stewed chicken bits in light soy gravy...
Served with bowl of clear soup and couple bits of meatball.
awwwh.... sedap dan mengenyangkan.

But living far from the hometown is not easy when you crave for bowl of it.
Also I am currently having 1 years old plus a bit who is now very curious with every single food I ate. Which make me always think twice if I want to buy food.

Lucky for us living in google era.
Where everything is google-able, and there will never no-answer for anything.
I found very simple recipe of Mie Ayam and having step that easy to follow.

Resep saya bukan 100% autentik, tapi mengalami modifikasi karena masalah (ahem... kesehatan...)
mencoba kurangkan lemak, dll.

Bakso (meatball) saya buat in advance, masuk freezer.

Jika nak makan Mie Ayam, tinggal keluarkan bahan dari freezer, buat kuah ayam, rebus mie kering dan sawi. Semua siap dalam masa 15 menit saja ")

Bahan-Bahan:
Tumisan Ayam
2 Buah dada ayam / chicken breast
2 batang daun bawang / spring onion
1 bawang bombay (bawang holland) / yellow onion
3 butir bawang putih (garlic)
=> potong kecil-kecil.

1/4 sdt ketumbar
1/4 sdt merica
pala seujung sendok (nutmeg)
1 cm kunyit (turmeric)
=> ulek halus

5 sdm Kecap manis
1 sdm saus tiram
daun salam, daun jeruk purut, gula, garam,

1. Tumis bawang merah, bawang putih, dan daun bawang hingga layu, Masukkan bumbu ulek. Masak hingga harum.

2. Massukkan Ayam, aduk hingga ayam setengah masak.
3. Masukkan Air, kecap, saus tiram dan bumbu lain.
4. Masak hingga ayam empuk, dan kuah menjadi agak pekat.

Kuah Ayam:
1 Liter Air Mendidih
Tulang Ayam secukupnya
Daun bawang sedikit
Garam, Merica bubuk.
=>
Rebus tulang ayam dengan air mendidih, masukkan bahan-bahan lain.
Rasakan, kemudian saring.

Minyak Bawang:
5 sdm minyak goreng (saya pakai sunflower oil), minyak biasa pun boleh. asal minyak baru.
3 siung bawang putih, iris tipis
3 sdm lemak ayam/kulit (saya tidak pakai)
=> panaskan minyak, goreng kulit (jika pakai) hingga kering, Sisihkan kulit.
=> masukkan bawang putih kedalam minyak, goreng hingga garing.
=> simpan dalam balang/tupperware.

How to assemble
1. Rebus mie dan sawi, tiriskan.
2. Campur mie dengan 1 sdm minyak bawang.
3. Tuangkan tumisan ayam.
4. Tabur dengan daun bawang.
5. Sajikan Mie Ayam dengan kuah bakso.

Baby took a part in enjoying Mie Ayam.

Love it...!!

Sop Sayur dan Tetelan

In Singapore they call the dish as Sop Jawa
In Indonesia they call it Sayur Sop

Makanan yang simple dan seger di untuk lunch in the lazy day :)

Sayur sop is the simplest dish I've ever learn in my childhood and always become one of my fave.
The clear broth from boiled bone (chicken/beef) or sometimes it just water based soup.

Compared to super rich Malaysian soup with lot of herbs, seasoning, and spices. I prefer this simple soup with only used salt, pepper, garlic, and spring onion for soup base.

Bahan:
1 1/2 liter water
2 beef/chicken bone

1 garlic
bit  of salt, pepper

1 spring onion
1 batang daun sup / seledri / chinese parsley

1 carrot, kupas potong
1 potato, kupas potong
1/2 broccoli, trim

Cara:

*Saya pakai dua-duanya, biar karbo-nya makin nendang, biar makin gembil, biar makin semohay ahahahah..

Apa tu Mama..? Mamam... hmmm enak..
No No No..!! Wait wait wait...
*kecolongan daun seledri

That is my broccoli, how come its in your plate Mama..?
Borrow lah... sekijap.. >.<
I should take it back, that is mine

Mom, that is my broccoli
*berebut piring

Marcella, no no.. pecah ini nanti pinggan..!!

Yes, I got it.
This is mine...

Marcella, put it back.
Mummy just borrow
*Mama ambil kembali broccoli tu, masukkan balik ke pinggan.
Sedia untuk shoot gambar

Kuah pun sedap Mummy,
srup srup... let me drink it from the corner.

Haishhh.... sabor je laa....
Amik amik amik... jom makan...
Take your chair.
*Ibu menyerah

Tapi memang seger sih...
apalagi dimakan di hari panas.

DIY Baby Teething Biscuit

Heinz teething rusk MYR 12.00/pack
isi 12 batang

For me its a bit pricey, 12 ringgit untuk beli biskuit banggal kayu ko..?

Price is one problem for me, rasanya nggak rela banget duit segitu cuma dibeliin gigitan yang nggak ada gizinya.

Bahan:
1 lembar roti tawar
1 sdt selai sesuai selera (saya nggak pakai)

Cost:
1 bag roti gardenia RM 3.20 isi 15 lembar

Caranya:

potong kulit roti tawar

tipiskan dengan gilingan
*saya pakai gelas aja, nggak punya gilingan hiks.. :P

Gulung roti dengan ketat.
Kemudian microwave selama 1 menit / panggang 5 menit

biarkan hingga sejuk dan uap air hilang

microwave kembali selama 30 detik

lakukan berulang-ulang hingga roti mengeras

Pumpkin Risotto For Baby

Inspired by Baby Jarred Food from Only Organic we bought couple days ago. I kept thinking it will be more nitritious if we made it ourself.

Many article said it doesn't matter how expensive and great the brand of baby food in the jar, most of their nutrition been disappeared from the production process which include steaming in high temperature to kill bacteria.

Bahan:
1 sdm butter (bukan margarin)
1/8 potong bawang bombay/1 siung bawang merah
1 potong labu kuning / butternut squash
1 potong ubi manis
1 potong wortel
2 sdm kacang polong
1 buah tomat (ukuran kecil) rendam air mendidih sebentar

Kukus sampai lunak.

Tumis bawang merah dengan mentega hingga harum. Gunakan api kecil agar mentega tidak hangus. Masukkan kacang kapri beku.

Masukkan sayuran lain, masak sehingga lunak.

Masukkan tomat dan sedikit air, biarkan hingga lunak.

Dinginkan risotto, sajikan dengan dihancurkan sesuai usia bayi.

Marcella's still couldn't take any lump in her meal, so I blended all of her food super smooth.
