Coconut Lime Scrub

New product made by Lulur Bali Malaysia

I testing their sugar scrub product (for free),

I quite Iike it.

I love the fresh smell of lime juice and lime zest all over my body.

The base of sugar scrub is Virgin coconut oil and sugar. I guess they add more thing like almond  oil, vitamin É, and other moisturizer.

I applied on my wet body and give soft motion to let the sugar scrub do the job.

Leave for five to ten minutes and rinse with warm water.

Pro:

- The product is 100% made from natural ingredients

- Sugar scrub is soft enougo to exfoliate face and lips.

-The moisturizer from almond and Virgin Coconut oil leave the skin soft, smooth and hidrated.

Contra:

- Sugar scrub is made from sugar, it leave the shower messy , sticky and slippery the residue invites many insect i.e : Ants etc .

- I am not patient enough to wait up to 10 min before shower.

- The container made from glass-jar, not easy to bring during travel.

Lulur Bali Ratih

Living in Malaysia is not really easy to get lulur (traditional body scrubs), it is way different with when you living in Indonesia where almost every single shop having it.

Yes, lulur is essential part of our life.

After happily use Ovale brand, I explore myself to tried a new one. Bali Ratih is kind of new product to me, but then I realise I've been using then for long time.

The previous brand was "Sekar Jagat" which I've been using for long time.

What I like from Bali Ratih is the aroma and the power in remove the dirt from my skin without crazily scrub.

While other lulur is giving a fresh traditional aromatherapy fragrance to your body, Bali Ratih is leaving fresh fruity aroma to us.

Coffee

Ancient Javanese used to use ground coffee and tamarind (Asam Jawa) to scrub their body before the shower, this recipe was copied from the Royal Family where their maid prepared fresh body scrubs to rub over their body to keep the skin clean and fresh.

The mix of coffee ground and soft sandalwood aroma is always reminding me with the Balinese SPA in Mont Kiara. The difference is that now I need to pay nothing to enjoy it cos I am doing it at home :)

Honey Coconut

Chocolate

The concept of Honey Coconut and Chocolate almost similar, which giving a deep moisturizer while the scrubs exfoliate the dead skin. The difference is that Honey Coconut use coconut oil as a moisturizing agent, while chocolate use cocoa butter. We all know the great benefit of coconut oil and cocoa butter to our skin :)

Milk

Bengkoang / Yam Bean / Sengkuang

Milk and Bengkuang has a similar effect when they apply to our skin. In old day we used to grate yam bean to make yam bean paste and applied to our face after outdoor activity to prevent the skin getting darker from the sun.

Or our elder sister and aunties applied fresh milk to their body with baking brush, stand in front of table fan to make it dry before shower (*yes, they were really doing it in the old days).

Ovale lulur bali adopt the old-folks recipe to their modern body scrubs.

I am lucky that I don't have to brush my self with fresh milk.

Boreh

Boreh is a traditional Balinese Mixed Spice which then pounded, blended with olive or coconut oil which then rub over the body before a massage session. What I can remember from the aroma, boreh contain of a lot lot lot of ginger, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Boreh giving a warm sensation to our body. 

Boreh spices together with massages will improve blood circulation, reduce the stress and give extra relaxation.

How Do I Love Balinese Body Scrub

Lulur is a very common word in Indonesia and Malaysia. Related to homemade body scrubs traditionally used by men and women to remove the dead skins, dirt and to improve the blood circulation.

I still remember when I was a kid, my mom used 

to grind coffee bean, rice and tamarind and mixed with coconut oil to scrub my body. 

This habit keeps continue until now just the different I don't grind my own coffee, but bought it from the store.

Most of the ingredients are very familiar to me,

Oryza sativa : rice

Manihot Utilissima : cassava / tapioca

Olive Oil

Zea Mays starch : cornstarch

Natural Aromatic Oil,

Now I know why sometimes people said the aroma if the scrubs is very strong

Its essential oil

The one I open now is milk-body scrub

We all know that milk is one of the best natural cleanser, and it's used widely in many products such: milk cleanser, milk bath, milk body mask, etc.

The aroma is a bit too strong that I need to open 

My window, otherwise the whole living room will smell like lulur (good smells tho)

The scrub agent is grounded rice

Yes.... Uncooked, grounded rice

Since I know it's a natural ingredients, nothing to worry about

Put a bit of the lulur paste on your skin,

Spread all over

PS you don't need lots of amount to the skin, like another lulur which you need to put extra generous. 

Lulur Bali is very thick, I only need a little bit and smear it over.

It's enough to clean around

Rub gently, 

We can see that the scrub start took around our dirt and make the cream change the color/texture of the cream after a while.

Metro-bus, my own sweat, make up and many more. 

How much you think you can collect after whole week working and jogging...?

I quite like lulur Bali, even if when I purchase it was a bit expensive (RM 20.00) for such a small container compared to the normal body scrubs in supermarket (RM 8 - 10) for 250gr.

But now I know why it makes them a bit pricey...

The Pro's

• Traditionally made, less chemical
• Natural aroma (ylang-ylang, coffee, chocolate, jasmine), no artificial perfume.
• Need less effort to scrub the body around compared to other product
• Thicker, less cream needed compared to other product
• Smaller container, easier to bring to travel. Esp fussy flight
• Just rinse on the shower, no shower gel needed. 

The Contra's:

• Pricey
• The aroma limited to traditional aroma, for some people might find it odd
• After scrubbing your body, you might need to scrub your shower floor. I suggest to stand on a towel, easier to clean.
• It's not 100% natural, bit of chemical and preservatives in the product
