Perhentian Island 2013: Tuna Bay Restaurant and Bar

One of the famous and expensive resort in Pulau Perhentian Besar

We walk and pass by to this restaurant many times,
Sometimes stop over for drinks and munch a snack too

We had some BBQ dinner that night to give a try the food again after an expensive chicken satay last year.

Beef Noodle which is way too so-so (no taste)
Grilled King Fish (the portion is too small)

French Fries (good)

The good thing about this place is the bar selling beer same price with every other shop.
They don't mark up the price just because they have a better restaurant or hotel.

Perhentian Island 2013: Turtle Bay

It cost us RM 20/pp/Way from Abdul Chalet to Turtle Bay
p.s: there is no taxi services there, so make sure to ask the boat to come and pick up at the certain time.

In a long bumpy trip

Turtle bay is an area where the Marine conservation doesn't allow people to build anything here.
This place is the beach where sea turtle lay their eggs at night.

The view..? Owh so stunning
The water..? much more clearer than any beaches around. We can see the sands for 20 meters
The sands...?  soft and nicer.. No broken coral around the beach

I feel like just want to camp there and not going back to the chalet

And we are alone

just like a private beach :)

Little Paradise just in the corner of the island :)

We back to the Chalet at 12:30 for lunch.
Definitely will go here again next time,
A little longer time

Perhentian Island 2013 : Abdul Chalet and Restaurant

Apologize with the crappy quality picture. Samsung galaxy doesn't give much option for me.
Abdul Chalet is located on the same line with Tuna bay,
Coconut and marine conservation officer in Pulau Perhentian Besar (Big).

We knew that the occupancy for August gona be super pack,
we decide to book it as early as possible.
Yes, we start to emailed the hotel soon we purchase the flight ticket.
Great we manage to get Deluxe Seaview for RM 215/night.

The good thing about this chalet is located exactly in front of the beach.
I can just chill in the porch and enjoy the breeze while
Others rush around the hunt for the best spot to lie down on the beach.

In the morning, I brought some bread to feed the fishes too

Water is only five steps too..
I can just run and dip my but as much as I like.
The room is quite fancy and big with air conditioning, nice floor,
nice wall and big shower room with water heater.

The thing about staying in a chalet with sunset view in Abdul Chalet is:
1. Afternoon Sun could be extremely too hot till the air conditioning couldn't cool the air down
2. Sunset view is always become favorites of everyone, where your quiet afternoon could be bit crowded and noisy.
3. The price is always higher than other views.
4. Housekeeping is not available for daily services, they will clean the room and change the towel during check-in/checkout.
5. The red color of the curtain makes the room even hotter. Doesn't help at all.

We were quite lucky because the water at the beach is very clean,
and coral reef with plenty fishes is just walking distance.

When other people need to take a boat just for a snorkeling trip,
I just need to walk and bring my mask.
Can start and stop anytime I like

This is how I enjoy most of my morning, afternoon and evening before dinner

The food in Abdul Chalet is not excellent, but not bad too..
It's a typical standard for restaurant food in Perhentian Island.
The coffee is way too sweet (just like other restaurant).
The price is quite acceptable (well, it's actually super cheap)

The restaurant doesn't sell alcohol, and not allow us to bring alcohol in public areas.
Usually we will ta-pau from cocohut and drink in out porch.
Some of the breakfast and lunch,
Tuna Sandwich and fries + Juice = RM 18.00
Toast and Mushroom Omelette = RM 8
Poached Egg and Toast = RM 6
Coffee tarik = RM 3
Malaysian Coffee (served in the pot) = RM 5

Malaysian coffee is way too thin, you can't taste the coffee in the drink.
Just black colored water.
Better to order individual coffee, and separate sugar so you can adjust the sweetness

Another corner of the resort is another good view.
There is a walkway which could be dangerously slippery
Love to walk here early in the morning or late afternoon.
The sun, the clear water, clean breeze and all the calmness of the quiet island.

You will feel like you need nothing in this life but this happiness

RM 30 pp include BBQ, Steam Rice, Jacket Potatoes, Free Flow of Salad.

Dinner in Abdul Restaurant is actually not bad at all,
Compared to Tuna Bay and Coconut, Abdul has the cheapest price of the BBQ.
But again,
Don't ever try or think to compare them with any BBQ in a five star hotel.
Of course they are different.

The bonus...
make sure you close the chalet door properly when you go out
or else..

gecko, crocky, lizard, mozy,
sugar glider, monkey, rabbit, iguana, orangutan, GODZILLA..
anything you could imagine living in the jungle can join you sleep tonight

Perhentian Island 6 : Beer in Chinese Restaurant

PP Chinese Restaurant
It just next to coral view island resort

Terengganu and Kelantan is a place where the islamic law applied
more strict than other state in Malaysia where we can't really find a place to buy alcohol.

Also Perhentian Island, where some of the resort not even served alcohol.
Tourist here seems very understand and respect the law where I saw nobody tried to drink alcohol
in the place where they put sign "Please no alcohol"

Me and MR went out to afternoon walk and we saw a Carlsberg Banner  waving around from one
old, shady, dirty wooden house.
We thought it going to be very expensive but the heat, the sun, the humid, the waves and the vacation
air was tickle us too much and we got no choice but give some try out
with promised if it expensive then we only buy one can each and walk away.

BBB : Beer, Book and Beach
Perfect...!!

view from the restaurant toward our chalet

The food price is exactly same with the food price in every resort and hotel.
it doesn't matter how good  or simple the place is.

seafood not really cheap even its an island with plenty sea around

WHY..?

because we are in conservation area where all the creature not mean to catch and eat.
All the restaurant who want to cook seafood has to ride motor boat to Kuala Besut and buy from fisherman there.

a very simple counter area but become the most favourite place in the area

for sure they stop for beer and cigarette only. So far I didn't see people eat here.
(I checked the kitchen and toilet, horrible.. lol)

simple plastic chair and some uneven table by the sands..

so yeah, this place is happy enough to drink beer in the afternoon. But not for meal :)

Perhentian Island 5 : Tuna Bay Restaurant

Restaurant belong to Tuna Bay Island Resort
Pulau Perhentian Besar

Tuna Bay located in another side of the island from the place we stay.
We took about 15 minutes jungle trip from the beaches across  forest and pipe to reach here.

I could reckon Tuna Bay area has more people than the resort we stay.
More party happen and plenty young and old wore speedo walk around
(not a good view...)

the reception include the restaurant.
on the left side should be a bar, but when we went there they were still close.

So we happy sit on the deck and watch sunset

nice peaceful view

update facebook (is a must..!)

enjoy the sky change its colour

we were tempted to eat BBQ here,
since everything look fresh and yummy

but we afraid of thunderstorm
we decide just have light snack and some drink

the changing colour
it just simply peaceful my crazy  mind

this spring roll add in extra peace

pipping hot deep fried spring roll

RM 12++

not bad

chicken satay and pita bread..

I like the satay, but don't like the bread..

Perhentian Island 4 : The Restaurant

Sri Tanjung Restaurant
Belong to Coral Bay View Island Resorts

NO ALCOHOL

Many people said that Perhentian Island's food are very expensive.
Well, maybe it was couple years ago when not many investor came and open business here.

Yes, we are agree the food price in Perhentian is not as cheap as the food on the land.
But I still feel it's quite normal...
not like umm.... RM 34++ for Char Kwey Teou, something like we paid in Hyatt.

some of the food and the price,
range from RM 6.00 - RM 15.00

not bad..

Bihun Curry  RM 12 nett

came in a decent place and taste...

bihun radna (bihun kung-fu) or whatever the name
RM 15 nett

plenty prawn and squid

Jumbo Smoothie RM 18
which can satisfied two adult

quite good.. and tasteful

this stuff is not worth...

low skilled of marinating, grilling and presenting western food...
salad was looks like wilted leaves..
squid was chewy like an old tyre..
beef also

nothing went right on that food

my dinner on the other night when we had sands storm
complete fried rice RM 8 nett

(lucky Mr has a sixth sense, when he asked me to move inside.
People were look at us with weird eyes, why we bother to move inside when dinner under full moon
was very sweet and romantic..

LOL..
around 15 minutes after, all the rice, steak, salads and BBQ pit filled with sands..

we were so happy watching them suffer from the sandy food.

Sizzling steak on (I forgot the price)
around RM 30

*happy face,  watch party was chaos by sands storm followed by heavy rain

Breakfast set,
bean on toast, sausages, fruit platter RM 15
came with cup of coffee and fresh juice
(the real fresh squeezed oranges)

the cheaper version RM 12 nett

2 soft boiled egg, French toast,
coffee and orange juice (cordial)

sucks..!

overall the food was ok and decent,
the price not so freaking out, where we can budget ourselves how much and what we going to eat  to survive in the island.

The service was good,
most of the worker were not local. I reckon they from Myanmar and Thailand.
Friendly, nice and polite..
Just I guess the chef were not skilled enough to cook western or maybe they couldn't get a good quality meat
from the land to bring around to island.

I still suggest to order local food than tried to force yourself eat in western style.
not worth...

what I like about this restaurant is they have my fave drink :TEH TARIK

will go here again..?   YES
will eat here again...?    YES

Perhentian Island 3 : Tuna Bay and Shark Reef

In a sunny afternoon

we walk around to another side of the beach in Pulau Perhentian Besar
Besar = Big

Tuna Bay
clear sky, hot sun..
camera test

found a good angle..

then I post myself there..

one more shot

shark reef during low tide
many people said if you pee there, the shark will come after you within 15-30 minutes
and swim around.

*really...?

another self posting

can't get enough take picture here..

Mr ask me to try the water, but I was so scared with the shark

I am in paradise..

Try to be cute, but fail.. haha

sunset

last pict before we look for cold drink and something to munch

It's getting dark and we argue what time to back to the resort..
After 7pm, water taxi charged us double price and we can't be bother to do jungle trekking again
it's dark and the mozzy as size as Buffalo

so we just sat here in restaurant deck
and enjoy the colour change on the sky

Peacefull
